Our 4-Day Stopover in Fiji: Tips for a Quick Stay

On our way to visit my sister in the USA, we decided to make a quick 4-day stopover in Fiji. It was a whirlwind trip filled with relaxation and discovery, but we also learned a few lessons along the way. Here’s a recap of our stay and some helpful tips for anyone planning a similar short getaway.

Where We Stayed

For our four days in Fiji, we split our time between two beautiful resorts:

In hindsight, splitting our stay wasn’t the best idea for such a short trip. Packing up and moving between locations took away valuable relaxation time.

Key Tips for a Short Fiji Stopover

  1. Stick to One Resort If you’re only in Fiji for a few days, I highly recommend staying at one resort. Moving between accommodations can be stressful and time-consuming, especially when you’re on a tight schedule.

  2. Opt for All-Inclusive Packages Food and drinks in Fiji can be pricey, so choosing an all-inclusive package can save you money—especially if you enjoy cocktails or a glass of wine by the pool. It also takes the hassle out of budgeting for meals.

  3. Pre-Book Cruise Transfers If you’re heading to an island resort like Malolo, pre-book your cruise transfers. When we arrived at the terminal, the long lines were overwhelming, and we could’ve avoided a lot of waiting and whining by booking in advance.

  4. Stock Up on Snacks and Drinks Malolo Island is stunning but not cheap. Before boarding the cruise, stop by a convenience store at the terminal to grab snacks and drinks. It’s a simple way to save money while enjoying your stay.

  5. Bring Sunscreen from Home Sunscreen is an absolute must in Fiji, but it’s also very expensive. Avoid overpaying by packing plenty from home.

  6. Plan Your Activities Wisely Fiji offers incredible tours and excursions, but most require a full day. With our short stay, we couldn’t commit to any tours, so we made the most of the activities available at our resorts. If you have more time, consider booking at least one tour to explore the surrounding beauty.

  7. Carry Cash for Taxis Many taxi drivers in Fiji don’t accept credit cards, so make sure to have some cash on hand. Both AUD and FJD are accepted, but confirm the exchange rate before traveling.

Final Thoughts

Fiji is an amazing destination, even for a short stopover. With a bit of preparation and these tips in mind, you can maximise your time and enjoy the best this tropical paradise has to offer.

Whether you’re heading to the USA or just looking for a quick getaway, Fiji is well worth a visit.

Safe travels and don’t forget your sunscreen!
